Stop For a Minute

There is a city that stops everything for a whole minute each year.

(video posted in 2012)

On 01 August 2014 at 5PM, the city of Warsaw stopped for a minute to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising.  It was on that day and time during World War II that Warsaw entered into battle with the German enemy.   The uprising effort lasted for 63 days (01 August to 02 October 1944).  It ended with the surrender of the surviving Polish rebels to German forces. the uprising had cost the nation over 200,000 lives.

Warsaw Uprising, the film, was released in May this year.  It is the world's first non-fiction war drama made from authentic newsreels filmed during the war in Warsaw.  I'm sure it is a very moving film but I don't think I am ready to watch such a film yet.

If you want to read more about the uprising, you can visit www.warsawuprising.com.
The film's website is warsawrising-thefilm.com.

Let us pray for peace and freedom for all nations.
Lest we forget.
