Sleep, My Darling Baby

One of the interesting features of my Fossil watch is the SLEEP monitoring function. It tracks details about my sleep, including whether it was DEEP or LIGHT sleep. Admittedly I don't get enough hours of sleep, however, I am happy to report that based on the Fossil sleep report, I usually have a higher percentage of deep sleep vs. light sleep almost every night.

MacGyver has a device that is also able to track his sleep.  I asked him about the quality of his sleep.  When he checked his sleep report, it showed that he typically gets more light sleep than deep sleep.

Since there was a big disparity between our deep sleep and light sleep percentages, I wondered if it was just a matter of the sensitivity of our devices.  I offered to lend him my watch so that my Fossil could tell us whether he was deep sleeping or not.  Unfortunately, the Fossil wristband was not long enough for his wrist. So we decided that I would wear his device instead.

I borrowed MacGyver's device last night and wore it on my left wrist along with my regular watch.  We compared the two sleep reports this morning.

The two devices reported very similar sleep durations.  There was only a one minute difference.

However the deep vs. light sleep numbers were quite far.  The Fossil report indicated 27.5% (1 hr 43 mins) of light sleep and 70.9% (4 hrs 25 mins) of deep sleep. As compared, MacGyver's device showed 3 hrs 27 mins of light sleep and 2 hrs 42 mins of deep sleep.

The Fossil explicitly showed that I had woken up in the middle of the night.  The other chart has a small break that presumably corresponds to the awake period but does not have the subsequent deep sleep graph that the Fossil has.

I am inclined to think that MacGyver's device does not register some of the hours of deep sleep he is getting or at least I am hoping that MacGyver gets more deep sleep than his device is reporting.     I am not really sure.

One thing I know for certain is that it is already past my bedtime.

Good night.  Sleep tight.  Don't let the bed bugs bite.
